Implementation of a protection concept for 10 kV power lines based on E.NEXT’s Smart Grid equipment
16.06.2026E.NEXT has successfully completed a 10 kV distribution network reconstruction project in the Poltava region, implementing an advanced power line protection concept based on Smart Grid technologies.
E.NEXT continues to contribute to projects aimed at modernizing and improving the reliability of Ukraine’s electrical networks.
As part of the project, reconstruction works were carried out on the 10 kV overhead power line «Tsehelnyi Zavod», supplied from the 110/10 kV Lokhvytsia substation and operated within the distribution network of the regional distribution system operator (DSO). During the project implementation, E.NEXT specialists installed, configured, and commissioned equipment for the 10 kV overhead line, applying technical solutions developed in accordance with the Concept for the Protection of 6-35 kV Power Lines created by E.NEXT Ukraine.
The concept is based on the use of modern automation and network sectionalizing technologies, including:
- Reclosers;
- Load break switches;
- Short-circuit indicators.
The implemented system enables the rapid detection and localisation of damaged sections of the network, the automatic disconnection of faulty branches, and the swiftest possible restoration of power supply to customers on the undamaged sections of the line.
The work carried out has made it possible to significantly improve the reliability of the electricity supply, reduce the time taken to locate and resolve faults, and ensure more efficient management of the distribution network’s operating modes. Thanks to the automation of switching processes, the number of customers affected by emergency power cuts is significantly reduced, and power is restored as quickly as possible.
Reclosers, load break switches and short-circuit indicators are key components of modern Smart Grid solutions, ensuring selective protection, rapid fault location and automatic restoration of power supply.
